The implementation of 'deep zoom' allows site visitors to expand images to fine level of detail without the down-side of large file downloads.
This example, showing 3 of the stained glass windows in St Mary's Church in Barnard Castle, consists of a single, high resolution image which can be smootly enlarged to see the full detail of the windows.

Other great uses for Silverlight deep zoom include multiple images and large documents e.g. newspaper archives where the visitor can navigate to the single image or part of the page of interest without having to load the whole image first.
